In order to keep the new Porsche lineup fresh and innovative, the German automaker Porsche is always looking for ways to boost style in every way that it can. Sometimes this requires an exterior redesign, other times it can be as simple as changing up the tires. Let's take a closer look at how Porsche is enhancing its Carrera GT model.
While partnering with Michelin, the automaker has designed a new set of performance enhancing tires called the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. After a decade of research and development, they will replace the Pilot Sport PS2 tires it previously featured. With the new wheels, drivers will be able to see a major improvement with the vehicle's handling, speed, and overall performance.
The newly designed structure of the tires incorporates "dual-compound technology," which is typically implemented in the design of racing tires. This allows for maximum grip on the road from the rubber compounds that are used on both the outside and inside of the tire's tread. When drivers push the model to its top speed, the model becomes much more stable at handling turns thanks to these innovative new tires.
However, that's not the only benefit. The Carrera GT will also experience increased mileage with a 10 percent boost in efficiency on standard roads, and a 20 percent increase on the race track when compared to its performance with the tires previously used. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are now available in 265/35 ZR 19 98Y "NO" and 335/30 ZR 20 108Y "NO" dimensions.
