When it comes time for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race and World Endurance Championship (WEC), all of us here at Performance Porsche get quite excited to see what Porsche has to bring to the table. This time around the automaker is giving us a sneak peek of its Porsche LMP1 racecar by releasing some photographs of it out and about testing. Porsche will return to running a car in the Prototype class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, an event it hasn't participated in since 2009.

Although it's camouflaged in a black and white covering, the LMP1 racecar looks like it's more than ready to take on competitors to bring Porsche its 17th Le Mans victory. While we don't know many specifics about its design beyond what can be seen of its unique structure in the photos, we do know that it will meet LMP1 regulations by sporting a specially designed hybrid powertrain.

In terms of the progress made while preparing for the upcoming race, Fritz Enzinger, Head of LMP1, explains, "We are well on schedule. Our newly formed team has worked with utmost concentration on getting this highly complex vehicle on the track as soon as possible. This allows us a few additional weeks for more testing and further development. From 2014, the regulations are primarily based on efficiency. This makes the competition amongst engineers more interesting and presents us with completely new challenges."1

As more developments occur in the world of Porsche racing, we will be sure to keep you updated right here on our blog.
