Plans recently surfaced for Porsche to develop a new smaller sedan to compete with the likes of offerings from other German automakers. And while this is an idea that Performance Porsche would love to see brought to fruition, it's also one that Porsche plans on timing very carefully.
Porsche CEO, Matthias Mueller recently gave an official statement on the strong rumor that the company has a new vehicle in development, with the codename Pajun (short for Panamera Junior). Similar in concept to the upcoming 2013 Porsche Macan, the Pajun would literally be a more conventional Porsche model in a smaller package. And as the name implies, the small luxury sedan would be based on the popular Porsche Panemera.
In an interview with German automotive publication, Wirtschaftswoche, Porsche CEO, Matthias Mueller shed some light on the company's approach to such a model. Specifically, he notes that while the demand for an entry-level luxury sedan certainly exists within the new Porsche lineup, it simply makes more sense to focus on improving current offerings before adding new ones.
So when can we expect the Porsche Pajun roadster to be back in the development cycle? There's currently no official word on when such a model would be released, but many are speculating that a release could be as soon as 2014 or as far off as 2017.
