Porsche has been building vehicles in Leipzig, Germany for ten years, and they've already completed their 500,000th. The milestone vehicle that rolled off the assembly line is a white Porsche Cayenne equipped with a V8 engine. And while this latest achievement for the German automaker is an exciting one, we here at Performance Porsche can't help but look to what comes next for the now iconic plant.

Specifically, Porsche intends to equip the plant and its employees to build the forthcoming Porsche Macan small SUV in the near future. The Macan is a perfect fit for the plant because it's actually based on a similar platform to that found in the Cayenne, which has been built there since its introduction as a 2004 model.

"500,000 Porsches made in Leipzig is powerful evidence of Porsche's ability as a company to perform in the industrial location that is Leipzig," exclaims Leipzig's Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung upon receiving the keys to the milestone Porsche Cayenne, which will be used in the city fire brigade's fleet. "I look forward to the new, even larger Porsche plant."1

As will we. Though we must admit we're more thrilled about the forthcoming Porsche Macan. Feel free to have a look at what we know thus far in the outline below, then be sure to stay tuned to the Performance Porsche blog for more information from now until it's available for a test drive at 1810 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd..
