This year, Performance AutoMall sponsored the "Big Cat Kick-Off Clash" to kick off the high school football season. The event featured the Carrboro Jaguars, the Chapel Hill Tigers and the East Chapel Hill Wildcats facing off against their opponents in three separate games at UNC's Kenan Stadium. Admission to the game was free. Performance AutoMall continually sponsors all local high school athletic programs throughout the year.
Students, parents, friends and community members gathered at McCorkle Place, walking down Franklin Street to the Lincoln Center. At the Lincoln Center, there was a Post-Walk Carnival. Last year, more than 4,000 people participated in the Walk. This year's Walk for Education took place on October 1st and the Race for Education took place in Spring 2012. Last year, over 200 people participated in the 7th annual Race for Education, which promotes a healthy lifestyle and exercise in a community-based atmosphere.
The Public School Foundation's Race is the only project that gives all local schools in the district the opportunity to generate funds for their own programs, clubs, sports and other extra-curricular activities. Proceeds from both the Walk and Race are used to offset recent cuts in critical areas, such as basic school supplies and materials, technology, the arts and more.
