Among the many automakers in attendance at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit were our Italian friends from Porsche. With them: the new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, making its official, global debut.
What does Performance Porsche have to say about the new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet? Well, among the many transformations Porsche had made to their flagship for the 2013 model year, the addition of lightweight top technology is among the most important. Not only is it, as the name suggests, extremely lightweight. For the first time ever, it retains the iconic 911 roofline, making it more difficult than ever to distinguish the Carrera Cabriolet from Carrera Coupe.
Another similarity between the Porsche Carrera Coupe and new Carrera Cabriolet models (i.e., the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet and Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet) is that they all share the same engine. The only difference is in size. For example, while the 911 Carrera Cabriolet features a 3.4-liter boxer engine capable of putting out 350 horsepower and even faster available packages, the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet packs a 3.8-liter engine capable of putting out up to 400 horsepower...And, like its slightly less powerful sibling, the S is also available in more high-performance packages.
In addition to the new, lightweight top technology, the primary feature which differentiates the new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet models from previous model years is their stronger emotional appeal, created by a more harmonious blend of memorable performance and restful comfort. In the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, this comes in the form of standard electro-mechanical power steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring.
