Porsche took a big gamble when they released their first four-door luxury sedan, the Porsche Panamera. But it has become a huge success for the German automaker. Its had so much success, in fact, they released a Porsche Panamera Hybrid last year. It was designed for drivers who loved its style, but who were also looking for a more fuel efficient option.
Both releases were actually rather high stakes for the automaker, but we would honestly expect nothing less from Porsche. That's why we're not shocked when we learned that Porsche is adding to their lineup of new Porsche models and releasing a Panamera Plug-In Hybrid for the 2014 model year.
As for what the new Plug-In Hybrid model will gain by adopting a charging cord... Most hybrids can only recharge their batteries while the vehicle is powered on. By plugging in a hybrid battery to charge, you generally gain both better fuel economy and a pure-electric driving range - both of which are gaining demand as gas prices continue to rise.
