The new 2011 Porsche Panamera is looking to bring drivers further on a tank of gas. Porsche engineers having been working on the issue and it looks like they might pull it off.
Available for a test drive at Performance Porsche in Chapel Hill, NC, Porsche believes Panamera drivers can pump 745 miles out from one tank of fuel. That is, if you opt for the upgraded diesel powered variant. Americans aren't used to diesel as a primary fuel source, but it can be more efficient. You have to remember, while diesel is only now just making a comeback in the North America, it's still the choice fuel for many autos overseas.Porsche's diesel Panamera features a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine that produces 250 horsepower with 405 lb-ft of torque. Not only is the car comfy and powerful, but it boasts a 0 - 62 mph time of 6.8 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 150 mph.
Another anomaly for North America drivers, aside from diesel, is the popularity of this rear-wheel drive sedan. Panamera's rear drive train is attached to an eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox. In other words, this sedan is not only luxurious, it's ultra powerful. So why not give diesel a chance onboard the new Panamera. (Don't worry, gas engine options are also available. Take one for a test drive and let us know what you think.
